Calle Ocho, also known as Eighth Street, is the vibrant heart of Little Havana, Miami's Cuban community. Every year, in March, Calle Ocho celebrates its rich culture and heritage with a massive street festival, known as Calle Ocho Day. This celebration is a unique opportunity to experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of Cuban culture.

One of the best ways to explore Little Havana and Calle Ocho Day is by taking a food tour. A food tour will allow you to sample some of the delicious traditional Cuban cuisine and experience the vibrant atmosphere of the neighborhood. Here are some of the highlights you can expect on a food tour during Calle Ocho Day:

           * Taste Cuban Coffee and Pastries

Start your food tour off with a classic Cuban breakfast of coffee and pastries. Cuban coffee is known for its strong, sweet flavor, and is typically served in small, espresso-sized cups. Pair your coffee with a delicious pastry like a guava turnover or pastelito de carne (meat pie).

           *Try Traditional Cuban Sandwiches

One of the most famous dishes in Cuban cuisine is the Cubano sandwich. This classic sandwich is made with ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard, all pressed between two slices of Cuban bread. You can find Cubano sandwiches at most Cuban cafes and restaurants in Little Havana.

           *Enjoy Delicious Plantains

Plantains are a staple of Cuban cuisine and are served in many different forms. Try tostones, which are slices of green plantain that are fried and served with garlic sauce, or maduros, which are sweet, ripe plantains that are fried and caramelized.*Sample Cuban Cocktails

No visit to Little Havana would be complete without trying a classic Cuban cocktail. Sip on a refreshing mojito made with fresh mint, lime juice, and rum, or try a Cuba Libre, which is a mix of rum and cola.

           *Explore Calle Ocho Day Festival

If you're visiting South Beach and looking to explore Florida's natural beauty, a 4-hour tour to the Everglades and an airboat ride is the perfect way to spend your day. The Everglades is a unique ecosystem that is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including alligators, birds, and fish.

The tour starts with a comfortable bus ride from South Beach to the Everglades. Along the way, your guide will share information about the area's history, geography, and wildlife, preparing you for what's to come. Once you arrive at the Everglades, you'll board an airboat and begin your ride through the marshes.

The landscape is unlike anything you've ever seen, with vast stretches of water and grasses stretching as far as the eye can see. It's a peaceful and serene environment, and you'll have plenty of opportunities to take photos and soak up the scenery.

After your airboat ride, you'll have a chance to visit the Everglades National Park, which is one of the largest national parks in the United States. Here, you can walk along the boardwalks and trails, learning more about the ecosystem and the wildlife that inhabits it. There are also a variety of exhibits and interactive displays that provide insight into the history and culture of the Everglades.

Overall, a 4-hour tour from South Beach to the Everglades and an airboat ride is a must-do experience for anyone.

           What Is Art Deco?

Art Deco architecture can be identified by its pastel colors and bright paints, garden fountains and manicured gardens, and ornate windows. Along with the hundreds of homes built in this style, their are plenty of hotels and larger buildings that also represent the Art Deco movement.

Why is the Art Deco District So Popular?

The Art Deco style that made itself popular in Miami was actually inspired by a similar movement spreading across Europe earlier in the century. While there are many different preferences and stylistic choices architects make when designing buildings, the common features shared between them created an atmosphere that people enjoy. While the buildings were built decades ago, they are still preserved by dedicated preservationists and can still be enjoyed by people today.

After you hop off your Miami boat tour, head over to Miami beach for some rest and relaxation. Located along Ocean Drive, you can find dozens of restaurants and stores alongside miles of pristine beach. You can take a walk over to the Art Deco Historic district which is full of buildings dating back to the early 1900s and classic Miami neon signs. There are plenty of hotels in the area so you don’t have to travel to get your beach time.

Just a short drive from Miami, the Everglades National Park protects one of Florida’s and the United States’ most unique ecosystems. Over 1.5 million acres, you’ll see alligators, crocodiles, snakes, raccoons, and birds of every shape and size, not to mention the diverse range of plants and bugs. Head over to the visitor center to learn more about the area as well as to get information about where to go. One of our favorite walks is the Anhinga Trail that starts right by the Royal Palm Visitor Center. You can always hop on an airboat to get a high-speed trip through the glades.

This is less of a tourist attraction than a cultural center. Home to a historically Cuban migrant population, you’ll find restaurants and stores that immerse you in the islands culture. You might want to plan your visit around the Calle Ocho Festival in March, a celebration of Latin American culture that extends throughout the neighborhood.

With over 3,000 different animals housed inside its walls, Zoo Miami isn’t short on things to see. All of the animals’ homes are carefully maintained to be as close to the environments that they would experience in the wild. This zoo is one of the only in the United States that is located in a subtropical climate which gives it easy access to a wide variety of native trees and birds to decorate the park. If the kids get bored, there are plenty of places to get a sweet treat or head over to one of the many play areas.
